July News for SVDP
Dear St. Vincent de Paul Supporter,
You are receiving this Flocknote because you support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference of Saint. Bernadette.
During our last conference meeting, we talked about how we could keep you, our most loyal supporters, up to date with information about the work we do in our community. Sending you a short Flocknote once a week on a different topic regarding the work of our conference is one way to do this. Some of these notes will be printed in the parish weekly bulletin, but you will see them early. We hope you enjoy them and find them useful. You can always opt out, but please give us a try for a month.
If you ever have any questions or comments for us, you can leave a message for us on our phone line, 502-815-3113. We check the line daily and will get right back to you.

Thank You for Your Donation
When I was young I sometimes said “There’s nothing to eat in this house” or “I have nothing to wear”. There was always an abundance of food and clothing, just not what I wanted at that moment.
As a young adult, I discovered what nothing really means on my first St. Vincent de Paul home visit in Seattle, WA. We visited a young mother with a new baby, and she had just moved into an apartment. There was NOTHING... no furniture, lighting or bed. No pots and pans, food, clothing or personal hygiene items. Nothing for the baby. So we sat on the floor and visited. Our St. Vincent de Paul conference provided all the help we could to this young family.
Many years have passed since that first home visit and yet, within a few miles of our parish, the SVDP Conference of Saint Bernadette has encountered clients in similar situations. They usually contact us seeking assistance with rent or utilities. We set up a home visit, and upon entering the home, we discover they have nothing. In addition to financial support, the SVDP Conference of Saint Bernadette provides them with vouchers for furniture and clothing, some food, and a list of places for additional support. We listen to their stories and hopefully help them begin to change nothing into something.
This is one example of the help we provide to our community. It seems like assistance goes out as fast as donations come in, so we greatly appreciate those who regularly support our work and welcome any new donations. In the coming weeks, we will share more details of our work. Thanks again for your continued support of the work of our SVDP conference.
